Our story takes place just before Christmas 1934 in a quaint English village. Little Mistleton is picture-postcard perfect and has recently won ‘Village of the Year’ for the sixth year running. Monty DeMille, a local-born Hollywood star, has recently returned to the village and is throwing open the doors of their newly renovated Mistleton Hall for a magnificent Yule Ball. But a serial killer is on the rampage and has the village under a reign of terror. The ‘Mistleton Slasher’ leaves indecipherable cryptograms beside their victims and favours unusual murder weapons. But even as the body count rises, the villagers seem to be more concerned with their petty squabbles, the elusive buried treasure and divisive local issues such as the proposed new railway. As the days get colder and the nights longer, the chilling grip of the Mistleton Slasher is getting stronger. Nobody can be sure they’ll make it to Christmas.
